Lynda Minter trained at St Martin’s School of Art in 1983. A consummate landscape painter, Lynda returns time and again to create a single work from a scene she loves; often the Thames or the coast around the British Isles where skies, land and seascapes fascinate her. Lynda works the canvas with oil glazes, letting the paint dry for a few days before reworking, and building up texture to give her paintings a tremendous visual depth.
Lynda says: “My working approach is very simple I pack a small watercolour box and drawing materials with sketchbooks. I usually set out early as I find the first light before daybreak is so wonderful to paint. But I also love the end of the day, when the light begins to fade and mellow.
As I walk or cycle, I stop and sketch or make notes, even in the rain and wind. I feel you have to experience a place before you can paint it.
I use a variety of tools and brushes, and it is very often the involuntary and accidental marks that work best. I feel that painting should be instinctive as well as carefully observed.”
Lynda Minter’s work has been exhibited widely and are included in private collections across the world including London, Russia and the USA
